Ideas for a Marfa Bachelorette Party
HOWDY, Y’ALL. Are you ready to grab your girls and head out WEST for a weekend getaway unlike any other? With a motto like “Tough to Get Here. Tougher to Explain. But Once You Get Here, You Get It.”, it’s easy to understand the mysterious draw of Marfa, Texas. Marfa is the perfect mix - part art hub - part western small town, and full of good food, and curiosities. It’s located just 60 miles north of the US-Mexico border, about 200 miles east of El Paso, and is home to some of Instagram’s most famous photo-ops, including Prada Marfa.
Here, we broke down the perfect getaway weekend to experience the best that Marfa has to offer.
Buckle up, ladies!
First off, where to stay:
El Cosmico: quintessential Marfa, with photogenic colorful trailers, teepees, yurts and safari tents, all offering plenty of space for you and your girls, on a beautiful campground with shared spaces and hammocks galore
Hotel Paisano: charming historic hotel from the 1930’s adorned with neon, which has been completely renovated. Fully equipped with an event space, restaurant and lounge with courtyard seating, AND seasonally heated pool
Hotel Saint George: a cool and modern gem located in the heart of Marfa, beautifully designed, and is home of LaVenture restaurant and Bar Saint George (incredible places to wine + dine in Marfa!). Oh and did we mention staying at HSG also gets you access to The Pool (aka the go-to spot in Marfa for swimming, dining, and relaxing)
There’s only a handful of hotels in Marfa, so be sure to plan WAY ahead if possible. If not, a solid plan-B is to check out AirBNB.
Option 1 (13 Guests) // Option 2 (5 Guests) // Option 3 (6 Guests)
To Eat:
Buns N Roses: cute stop for breakfast/brunch
Do Your Thing Coffee: cafe and espresso shop, breakfast and lunch cafe, flowers, gifts and baked goods
The Water Stop: specializes in organic rotisserie chicken, the menu also boasts fresh juices, delicious salads, homemade breads, and the "best cheeseburgers in Texas". Their menu also has turkey mole with a side of jalapeno mac n’ cheese (yes please!)
Food Shark: Another Marfa staple, a lunch-only food truck offering Mediterranean grub, a rustic covered patio & seating in an old bus
Stellina: Intimate eatery for DELICIOUS home-cooked & rustic Italian plates, also has great menu of wine + beer
Marfa Burrito: a CLASSIC stop in Marfa, famous for well, you know, burritos. You can see the photo hanging in the small lobby of the owner and Texas’ very own Matthew McConaughey (PS - this is cash only!)
Drinkin’ Spots:
Planet Marfa: picturesque beer garden, donning pink terracotta walls, a teepee that leads you downstairs to a hangout spot, a school bus to drink and relax in, and all the southwestern flora your heart can handle
Lost Horse Saloon: Self-described as the “most cowboy-kickin'-est bar in town” (how can you say no to that!?), cold drinks, free pool, free darts, classic dive bar vibes
House Bar (aka Casita Bar): unique decor, good drinks. This place you just have to see in person
PSA: Marfa is infamous for having strange hours for shops and restaurants, so be sure to plan ahead! And be able to just go with the flow if a business randomly closes for the day which sometimes does happen because, well, that’s Marfa. Weekends can get PACKED so be sure to make reservations if possible.
Photo Ops:
First things first, hit ALL the photo ops with you and your squad! A few famous spots we absolutely recommend:
Prada Marfa (which btw, actually has Prada’s genuine 2005 fall/winter collection)
El Cosmico (worth a stop-by even if you don’t stay there!)
Stardust Motel sign (which randomly lights up, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch it!)
“Greetings from Marfa” mural at Frama Coffee
The Water Tower
AND lastly, if you don’t mind journeying a little bit, stop by Tiny Target or the GIANT movie tribute constructed of plywood cutouts and standing tall in a field along the highway and featuring the one and only James Dean
To Do:
Feeling adventurous? Take a 1.5 hour drive south to Big Bend National Park - one of Texas’ incredible and beautiful national parks, and is home to the ENTIRE Chisos Mountain Range.
Must-sees include Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive, Santa Elena Canyon, Emory Peak, and Cattail Falls
Marfa Mystery Lights. What are they? When do they show up? HOW do they show up? Although no one *technically* knows the answers to any of these questions, that doesn’t take away from the allure of trying to catch these infamous fleeting lights. On a clear night once the sun goes down, some nights you’ll be lucky enough to catch mysterious lights that twinkle, disappear, reappear, split into two, and change colors. Even if you miss them, you’ll be in store for an incredible sunset and unmatched stargazing
A short drive will take you to the city of Alpine - chock full of restaurants, breweries, wineries, coffee, local artisan shops, and more local museums
Shop the local shops, check out one of the many art museums, walk or bike around downtown, make friends with the locals, relax, and have FUN!
Hope you girls are ready to get your boots a little dirty! If you guys have any other recommendations PLEASE reach out to us. We love hearing from you guys and we love adding more places to our blogs.
