First Things to do Once You're Engaged - Wedding Wednesday

YAY; YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED!

As a part of our Wedding Wednesday series, we are helping those newly engaged girlies out there! This is the moment you have been waiting for. There are so many things to think about, so many people to contact and so much to get done but don't be overwhelmed!

Here are some things to do once you get engaged! Your partner popped the question and now it’s time to get to planning. As a previous event planner, I have got some tips on what to do first!

  1. Call your Families and Friends

Don’t go straight to social media, whatever you do. You will want the people that are closest to you in your life to hear it directly from you! Once they hear from you and have time to process and be excited about the news, then you go to the ‘gram!

2. All about the Bling

A couple things to do with the ring! Make sure your partner has taken out ring insurance, and if they haven’t, make sure is to take out an insurance policy in case anything were to happen to your ring. One tip is to make sure you have the ring's appraisal papers before you finalize any policies.

Then, time to get a manicure, if you don’t already have one and then

POST THE BLING ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

3. Pick a Date!

I think picking a date is one of the most important things you can do when you first start planning! It is something that sets the tone for everything about your wedding. What will the season be? Summer? Fall? What kind of colors are going to be incorporated? Will you have an outdoor or indoor ceremony depending on the weather? These are all very important questions to ask yourself when you first get engaged and start to think about planning your wedding!

4. Sort out the Guest List

This is something that I don’t think a lot of people put on their first priority list and I always think it should be right at the TOP. Because, you can’t pick a venue that fits your needs if you don’t know how many people are attending. You can’t set a correct budget and start getting quotes from vendors if you don’t know how many people you’ll need to send invites to, to feed, etc. This is something that should occur early on in the planning process.

5. Pick Your Wedding Party!

Time to pop the question to your wedding party. Think about those friends (& siblings) that have stuck with you through your whole life up to this point. This will be your support system from the day you get engaged to the day you say “I Do!”. You’ll need their emotional and physical support, so make sure to choose them wisely.

If you are wondering how to ask them, check out our Bridesmaid Proposal blog post!

6. Start Your Pinterest Board & Start a Vision Board

OKAY OKAY; we all know you’ve been adding to that wedding dreams Pinterest board of yours since the 6th grade. Now it’s time to start REALLY pinning your dreams (and realities) up on that board. Here at GYB each one of our Bachelorette parties gets their OWN mood board that we put together completely custom to the party.

7. CELEBRATE!

Get together with some of your best friends and family and go out for a celebratory drink, or have a special date night solo if that's more your style. You're engaged, and that's totally worth toasting. Or hey, why not throw an engagement party!? We’re all about parties here! I mean, just look at this adorable country rustic, but modern engagement party. We’re obsessed.

8. Start Researching Wedding Venues

So this is where that pinterest board will come in handy! And remember, you really can’t nail down a date without your dream venue, OR knowing how many guests you want to have at your special day. Do lots of research, tour a few places, and make

9. Interview Wedding Planners and Other Vendors

Whether you already know who you want to help plan your wedding, photograph it, or the designer of the dress you will be wearing, it’s time to start thinking about the team you want to hire to make sure your wedding day is as special as can be. Make sure to ask around for references and set up some interviews to find which one your vibe with, who is in your budget, and who you know will be with you every step of the way.

NOW THE BEST PART…. but maybe we’re a little biased.

10. START PLANNING YOUR BACHELORETTE PARTY!

Obviously you may not have ALL the say in the planning of your bachelorette party, but you should definitely talk with your girls on WHERE, WHEN, and WHO! And even better, you should have them contact us from all your bachelorette planning needs. Here at GYB, our services can be as involved as you like while planning; we do everything from meals (dining out / catering in) to lodging accommodations, day and night activities, transportation, decor, attire, etc. Basically.... you need it, we can do it!
